Creating an Unexpected Holiday Look

When it comes to holiday parties, I live for a sexy little red dress or a classic LBD that makes a statement. But let’s be real, there are only so many dresses a girl can wear #amiright? This year, I’m approaching my holiday party style a little differently!

Before I dig into a few tips for amplifying your unique holiday party looks, I wanted to give a little background on today’s #ootd. A v neck sweater and sequin pencil skirt isn’t usually my go-to. One: it can be extremely unflattering if worn incorrectly. I mean hello I have curves, why would I go the boxy route? Two: Sequins. Also not usually my thing. I love for matte neutrals and simple fabrics. For whatever reason though, I was drawn to this fun combo. The fact that it’s got that monochromatic vibe going on definitely helps. And I obviously love adding a pop of fun texture for the holidays. So, sweaters and sequins it is.

I kept the look simple and modern with tan ankle strap heels and a nude lip. You could dress it up even more with some statement baubles or a burgundy lip situation. I also love that both of these pieces can be work separately. The grey v neck is an obvious pick but I can’t wait to wear this sequin skirt with a graphic tee for a casual date night or with a tank and leather jacket for a sexier night on the town.

Have Fun with Holiday Style

Again, as much as I love a cute dress for the holidays, it can get a little boring. I love the idea of playing around with different textures, colors and patterns to create an unexpected holiday party look. Check out a few of my go-to tips below!

  1. Don’t be afraid of textures. Whether it’s sequins, faux fur, leather or pleats – play up your look by adding a textured piece to your party look. Think a skirt or top or even a cute bag!
  2. Try a cozy addition to your look. A knit sweater might seem like a stretch for a dressier affair but I love how chic it can be with a dressier piece like a pencil skirt or wide leg trouser.
  3. Go for the metallics. If you’r going to stick with a simple lbd this season, try a pop of festive metallics with your shoes and accessories. i’m even loving the metallic beauty trends like a gold eyeshadow or bronze eyeliner.
  4. mixed metals..and well, mixed textures are totally fine. gone are the days of the matching sets (well not really – i love a good matching situation). take your look up a notch by pairing unexpected patterns or textures.
  5. when all else fails, break out the bold lip or accessory to complete your festive look!

I love this look and how comfy it looks! I live for comfort so the idea of wearing a sweater rather than a tight dress sounds much nicer. I think this looks so sophisticated and unique, not like the typical sparkle on steroids look.
