The Key to Fresh AF Curls

This post has been sponsored by SheaMoisture. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Spoiler alert: I have short hair. Most people think I just wake up, throw some water on it and am out the door. As much as I wish this was my morning routine, it just isn’t the case.

I made the decision to go completely natural and embrace my curls (i.e no heat) a little over two years ago and it’s been the best decision ever. It took me years to love the curls my momma (and daddy) gave me but now that they’re here, I’m not letting them go…ever. Just like with any style, maintaining the perfect, fresh curls can be tricky. Especially when they’re short! I know you may not believe me but they can get pretty dull and flat and frizzy and no one wants that. You also have no choice but to keep the curls lookin’ good – it’s not like you can sweep your hair up into a bun or braid.

Over the past year or so, I think I’ve finally found a routine that keeps my curls looking their best and feeling even better. The magic you ask? Well my friends, it’s SheaMoisture. This was literally the first brand I fell in love with after testing out a few different products and I’ve been hooked ever since. When I had the opportunity to work with them to share my routine and a few styling tips, I seriously couldn’t wait (love when the blogging world actually aligns).

What I love most about SheaMoisture is that their products are super affordable (you can score them at Walmart!) and they’re made with natural, organic and fair trade ingredients so they’re actually good products.

My daily routine…well, it is pretty simple. I usually spray a little water in my hair to freshen up the curls then use a styling product to add in some moisture and hold. I’m obsessed with the SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Gel Soufflé. I never would have thought I’d like a gel but with a little scrunch and a lot of moisture, there is NO crunch or greasy curls here.

To help keep my curls looking their best in between mini styling sessions (this my friends is the key), I do a deep conditioning treatment at least twice per week. I recently started using the SheaMoisture  Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque after my bi-weekly wash routine (loving SheaMoisture  Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo+ African Black Soap Balancing Conditioner). Having the treatment a few times a week keeps my curls soft and hydrated so when I do go to style them in the morning, all I need is that water and a styling cream or gel.

Great post! You have such cute curls. My hair is slick straight and refuses to hold a curl. I love that the products you use are natural and organic. It makes a difference when using harsher chemicals.
