My 2 Rules for Self Care

I can’t believe it took me thirty years to get a grasp on the importance of self care. Like truly, fully understand the role putting yourself first plays in your own peace and sanity. When it comes to loving on YOU, I live by two simple rules.

Rule #1: Make time for you.

And I’m not talking locking yourself in your bathroom with candles and a hot bath. That works, too, don’t get me wrong. I mean carve out some real time for you, during the day, to get away from your normal routine and just BE. For me, I love heading to a coffee shop or cafe with an audiobook or a magazine and just sitting still for a few hours. Because I work from home, I have a little more flexibility with a work schedule so I like to block out time on my calendar at least once a week for me. Maybe a break from 2:00-4:00 after an afternoon of meetings or an early morning solo coffee date before starting the day. I jot it down in my calendar so I won’t cancel on myself.

Whatever you decided to do during this time is up to you. Whether it’s relaxing with a book (don’t forget the SPF – it’s finally patio weather in Atlanta) or lounging on your balcony for an at home mani/pedi, find the things you enjoy that can help you break away from your typical schedule and just enjoy taking care of yourself.

Rules #2: Invest in good products.

In good products that make you feel good. By now you know my love for Olay skincare products. A tried and true brand that doesn’t break the bank or sacrifice quality. I’ve been using a rotation of Olay goodies for almost two years now. Hands down, my new favorite is the Regenerist Whip SPF 25. The anti-aging formula reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without leaving a heavy film on your skin. And unlike other SPF moisturizers I’ve tried in the past, this magic in a jar absorbs oils in your skin throughout the day so you don’t have that oily, greasy residue. It’s weightless and breathable and the perfect everyday SPF moisturizer.

When I talk about self care, this is a huge part of it. It’s not just about giving yourself a spa night. It’s about treating yourself to good products that protect your skin.
