ATL Summer-to-Fall Hair Prep

I think I’m still in major disbelief that summer is officially over. Sure, there might still be some lingering heat and mugginess but I have to cope with the fact that long days at the pool are slowly dropping off and #PSL season is in full swing. With the change in weather also comes the change in my hair care routine. Hotlanta didn’t get it’s name for nothin’ so there are a few extra steps I’m taking during the summer-to-fall transition to prep my  locks for the new season!

For us, summer in ATL is all about humidity and heat. You might as well carry around a few bobby pins at all times because those curls you spent an hour on in the morning will be finito by 11am (cue an easy up-do). It doesn’t help that fall still comes with it’s own set of problems. Definitely some mild humidity but a little cooler and the static-balloon-hair officially begins.

Check out a few of the products I’m adding to my arsenal to prep my locks for the disaster Atlanta weather has in store and to just spice things up a bit…new season means a new look! (and if you live in the city, you know it’ basically a must to stay one step ahead of the style curve)

  1. If you follow me on insta, you noticed that I recently made the change from blondie to a bright + bold  red head. A look I’ve done before (tend to change up the color every season or so…I get bored!), I somehow forgot just how hard it is to stay a red head. The color fades after a couple of washes and it can tend to look a little dull if not taken care of properly. And because Atlanta humidity is pretty much all year around (with the exception of winter), it seems like my hair is always looking frizzy or blehh so a chic color is definitely a must. Thanks to my girls at Coleman Alexander Salon, I’m able to keep my red ‘do fiery & fierce but in between appointments, I like to freshen it up a bit with Vidal Sassoon’s Salonist Hair Color. I love the Dark Auburn color. The best part about the Salonist system is it comes with a 2-step process similar to salons so you don’t get that blocky, brassy look.
  2. With constant coloring and styling tools not to mention the heat & mugginess Atlanta is so known for during this whole summer-to-fall transition, I turn to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths Shampoo & Conditioner. While I am slowly chopping off my hair (it get’s addicting!) I want my locks to feel as healthy and strong as possible. The Beautiful Lengths products provide nourishment to strengthen against breakage in one easy step — something I can definitely get behind. The best part? Pantene just launched their Pantene Beautiful Lengths #8or8 challenge which asks people to give $8 or cut 8 inches of hair to create free, real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer. 3. My go-to for really any season is Head & Shoulders Moisture Care Scalp Soother Treatment. A product that I use in between washes and styling, I love how the treatment provides a cooling relief and improves moisture balance (lost with all of the heat and color!). This is seriously the perfect product for all of my ladies living in cities with humidity overhaul like Atlanta. I don’t know about you but getting home with frizzy hair always makes me feel like I need to do some major fixin’ to my locks. And because summer and fall for me is all about exploring the fun Atlanta happenings (usually outdoors), protecting my hair, starting at the scalp is a must.
