How to Pick Out the Perfect Nude Lipstick Shade

When it comes to makeup, y’all already know I live by the motto “Less is more.” As much as I love a red lip, my typical go-to is always something a little more natural. Call it nude, neutral, tan or beige, I love the minimalist vibe of a “nude” lip. Now, while I know nude means something different for each and every skin tone (man, I love the colors we come in!), I’m a firm believer that the lippies I’m about to share with you are the perfect neutrals for all of us.

But before I share, let’s talk about that infamous au natural look. It’s clean. It’s trendy. It’s easy. It’s modern. It’s chic. It’s timeless. I truly believe a neutral lip can do no wrong. One of my favorite beauty looks will always be a smokey eye, bronze cheekbones and a super simple natural lip. Make it matte and I’m done. Rock your nude lip to brunch, on date night, to the movies, to the grocery store – I really don’t care where I’m going, I feel pretty confident that a nude lip will work anywhere.

This NARS Lipstick in “Belle de Jour” was the shade that got me hooked on neutral lips! It’s the perfect peachy beige that goes with any beauty look.

L’Oreal makes some of the best lipsticks. I am obsessed with this shade, “Matte-cademia”, and usually throw this on for a more casual day.

Any shade called “Stark Naked” is OK in my book. Love the rusty finish of this neutral lipstick. It’s perfect for a night out.

The “Tres Leches” butter gloss from NYX is legit. The gloss is perfection and is great for a day to night look.

How to Pick the Perfect “Nude”:

Go one shade lighter or darker than your true “nude”.

Protect the color with a lip liner in the same shade or go a shade darker for more depth.

Don’t be afraid to go matte.

To go from day to night, add a little extra gloss.

Try the two-tone approach with a lighter shade in the center of each lip.
