Y’all know I love a good minimalist look. I thrive off neutrals, basics and the super simple. Which, spoiler alert, means I love a good classic piece at all times When it comes to incorporating the classics into my outfits, I tend to look for a slightly updated approach so I look anything but basic AF.
So what do these updated classics include? Keep reading below for my spin on the not-so-boring classics I try to keep in my closet at all times.

As much as I love a good faux leather or moto jacket, nothing quite beats the classically retro vibes of a trench coat. The longer cut just feels slightly more feminine and I think it’s safe to say you can pair a trench coat with any look for a chic and modern finished product. To give your trench an update, swap out the beige and go with a soft pastel color. Try a looser, slightly oversized fit with more flowy fabric like a duster. You can also play up the edge and try a leather trimmed trench or one with metallic buttons.

The bodysuit. I can’t lie, I was hesitant at first. The idea of wearing a swimsuit like contraption all day just seemed like torture. But after I tried my first one, I was hooked. It’s like an update tank top that doesn’t budget or bunch in your jeans. What’s not to love. Because I love high waisted jeans so much, a good bodysuit is almost always in rotation. I just racked up a bunch of basic grey, white and black ones to swap out with more casual looks and even love some of my more dressy ones for a night out. Try sequins, lace or sexier cut outs for an updated twist on a pretty basic piece.

Mules are this really cool combination of a classic loafer and some hybrid flat/sandal situation and I don’t hate it. While most loafers have a closed heel and can tend to harden a look, for me mules are all about the girly + modern appeal. Try a bold color, a fun print or a mule with some chic details or hardware. I die for these striped mules I scored at Forever 21 and can’t stop won’t stop wearing mules with almost every look. They’re great for transitioning into spring and can go from the office to brunch to dinner dates.
