New York Fashion Week. Where do I even begin? Well it’s funny you should ask. [insert shameless plug in 3…2…1…] In case you missed Friday’s newsletter (make sure you subscribe ladies), I’ve linked to a copy of it here! I broke down a few of the things I wish I would’ve known before heading to NYC along with a few tips for those of you planning your next NYFW adventure.
To keep it short + sweet: my first fashion week was an interesting one. There were great moments. There were shitty moments. There was self doubt. There were times when I totally felt like a badass. I think it’s safe to say I experienced quite a mix of emotions. Over the past two weeks, I’ve been going back and forth on the best way to share my personal experience at NYFW and decided that a mini vlog would be my best bet. I could go on and on about all of the things that I did and didn’t do – but I’m not sure you really care. And if you do, PLEASE leave a comment below or shoot me an email and I can definitely share my itinerary with you!
Instead, before you peep the video (less than three minutes!), check out a few of the things that totally made my week:
- The Kate Spade Presentation: I talked a little about this amazing presentation last week but this was definitely a highlight. The band was amazing and I saw Issa Rae. So, my day was basically made. The downside: being surrounded by bloggers with hundreds of thousands of followers and feeling like the biggest dweeb. Ever.
- Brand Meetings: One of the things I touch on in m newsletter is the importance of networking during fashion week. Sure, the shows are amazing and the parties are totally legit…but if you’re looking to build your brand and make long lasting connections, meetings and showroom visits are your best bet. And not the pop-by-our-party-for-cupcakes-and-champagne showroom visits. Schedule a one on one meeting with your favorite brands, agencies, etc. to build that relationship and discuss potential brand collabs. I loved getting the chance to finally meet the teams at H&M, Yahoo! Style and Alison Brod Marketing and wish I would have set up even more meetings.
- Postmates: Nope – this isn’t sponsored. I traveled solo for my first few days of NYFW and while I wasn’t a huge fan of staying by myself and venturing to and from shows solo, the fact that I had the option to just sit in my room and order food delivery was a #blessing. I am such an extrovert and love being social but to end the day in my sweats, alone with pasta in my bed – well it just didn’t get any better.
This was so awesome, babe- yay for NYFW!
