When it comes to mixing prints, I think I’ve always been a fan. The key to doing it well took me some time to master though. Sure, it’s easy if you live in a high fashion world where bold florals and crazy polka dots just seem to be the norm. But let’s be real, that’s not a real thing in our most of our lives. The good news? It doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with prints! I have always loved stripes and gingham. The fact that they’re best work in some sort of black + white combo just doesn’t hurt.
Although I’m no longer in an office environment, I sorta can’t help but be drawn to office-inspired looks for a dressier date night or business meeting. Today’s look brings together all of my favorite things. Gingham. Stripes. A classic trench coat. A chic, super flatter pencil skirt. A comfy tee. I just feel like you go with what you like and the magic starts to happen #amiright. The number one rule for print mixing is to stick with a common color scheme. It should be no surprise that I was drawn towards black & white with neutrals. It makes pairing a bold gingham print with a classic stripe that much easier. The combo comes together for a chic, modern twist to your standard tee + skirt #ootd.
I remember a few years ago when this whole mixing prints became a big thing and I was seriously so excited. I’m pretty pumped that it hasn’t died down just yet and I can’t wait to keep exploring and playing around with the trend in the future!
