How I Get My Curls

This post is written in collaboration with Cantu. All thoughts & opinions are my own! I would never share anything I didn’t 100% love.

It’s hard to believe it’s been over 6 months since I chopped my hair and fully embraced my natural curls. Up until December, I was always a super fan of the straight look. I only wore my hair curly when I was heading to the beach or if it was pulled back in some sort of bun situation. It’s not that I didn’t love my curls – because I did – I just didn’t know how to style them or how to really rock them with confidence. That is, until I made the chop. Now I honestly can’t imagine myself with straight or longer hair.

Over the course of 2015, I took off a few inches every couple of months as I worked up the courage to go full on “shortie”. And that, my friends, was one tough choice. I look back every now and then and really miss my bangs, my dark hair, my top knot, etc. I used to color my hair every few months and I am so proud of myself for sticking to the blonde ‘do for this long…and, to be honest, it’s probably my favorite look ever.

Which brings me to this: every woman’s hair story is totally unique & different. Some of us embrace our natural looks from the start, some of us love to switch it up and try new things. But one thing remains the same…we have to take care of our locks no matter the style, cut or color.

I’m so excited to be teaming up with Cantu to share my perfect recipe for achieving my favorite curl. This was a new-to-me brand that has been on my list for a while, so when I had the opportunity to break away from my routine and try something new, I jumped at the chance. And I think it’s safe to say this combo of Cantu products has officially replaced my day-to-day hair care. Check out my steps below!

The Steps!

Step 1: I start with the Complete Conditioning Co-Wash. This stuff is great for removing any product build up. It gently cleanses my curls and keeps them conditioned…all in one.

Step 2: After I rinse the Co-Wash, I use a few spritzes of the Coil Calm Detangler. The spray softens and conditions my curls for easy, tangle-free styling and it smells SO good. I spray it in section-by-section and comb through before styling. Tip! The Coil Calm Detangler is also good to use before cowashing.

Step 3I love love love the Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream. Although I’m rocking my natural curls, the lighter shades of blonde can still dry out my locks every now and then. I use the leave-in conditioner to not only prep my curls but also to help prevent any breakage or dryness.

Step 4: To give my curls that much-needed definition, I use the Coconut Curling Cream. I scrunch a little into each section, working from the roots to my ends. I love this stuff because it defines my curls without leaving them crunchy or too heavy. You can also use the Twist & Lock Gel to achieve the perfect twist out. Just pair the Coconut Curling Cream with the Twist & Lock Gel for the perfect twists…what we like to call the Coconut Twist!Cantu -11

Step 5: Depending on how much time I have, I typically run my hair dryer with the diffuser attachment over my curls for a few minutes but you can also let them air day (which, let’s be real, is about 99.9% of the time for me because I’m always running late).Cantu -15

As a fellow curly girl, I had to check out this post. I love styles that define my natural curls like this for the summertime. In this Georgia humidity, it can be hard to maintain other hairstyles. I love how these products have your curls looking so defined and moisturized!
