Target Beauty Box: A Hair Tutorial

Check it out below along with a quick + easy tutorial for achieving one of my fave looks – a simple crown braid/updo (perfect for my short hair ladies!).

Step 1: Start with semi-clean hair. I’ve found that 1 or 2 day-old hair works best for building a good braid. I used the Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner before towel drying and styling my hair and I also spray a few spritzs into my hair each morning before putting heat on my hair, especially if I know I’ll be wearing it up.

Step 2: Part your hair on the side, sorta close to a middle part.

Step 3: Squeeze a small amount of the SheaMoisture Black Castor Oil Styling Cream into your hand and rub through your hair from the ends up. This helps to build some texture and hold for your style.

Step 4: Start braiding the “heavier” side to get that crown-braid look. For a thicker braid, pull the hair underneath starting from the inside to the outer strand to the middle and repeat until you reach the back of your ear.

Step 5: Pin in place with 2 bobby pins (or as many as needed)

Step 6: Take the lighter side of your part and twist back to the nape of your neck.

Step 7: Take the rest of your hair and twist in small sections, pinning as you go. Don’t worry, this is supposed to look a little messy!

Step 8: Smooth a little more of the styling cream over any stray ends and you’re all done!
