Dreaming of Sugar Plum Fairies…

Kicking off my last week of blog posts for 2017 with what was probably my favorite “blogger” experience of the year. Last week, I had the most amazing girls night out in true festive, holiday fashion. Let me tell you all about it!

If you know me at all, you know I love to dance. I grew up taking lessons for ballet, hip hop and jazz and although I’m clearly NOT a profesb dancer, I literally jump at the chance to see any and every performance I can. Not to mention, I turn into a straight up dancing queen when I go out! Naturally, one of my favorite holiday traditions is going to see The Nutcracker. It’s magical and just feels like Christmas. This was my second seeing the Atlanta Ballet perform and y’all – I’m still blown away.

Before getting our sugar plum fairy on, Sarah, Shelby and I started our girls night with cocktails and snacks at Livingston. If you live in Atlanta, you have to check our this gorgeous venue. Located at the bottom of the Georgian Terrace hotel, get ready to feel enchanted with the beautiful decor, delicious bites and even tastier cocktails. It’s romantic and glam and everything I needed for a night out!

After drinks, we popped over to the Fox for a backstage tour and it was by far the highlight for me. Brian, who used to dance with the Atlanta Ballet, gave is a tour of the dressing rooms and the stage setup, introduced us to some of the ballerinas (eek!!), gave a behind the scenes look at the costumes and we even got to practice our version of ballet with some of the dancers before the show. It was seriously so amazing.

After the tour, we stocked up on popcorn and candy (duh) and headed to our seats. If you haven’t seen the Nutcracker, I want you to stop reading this post and buy a ticket. And if you have seen it, I encourage you to make it an annual thing. I never tire of the story and the music and the dancing. I cry every year and am always so blown away by the magic of it all. I live for the Rat King & his squad and love the sugar plum fairies. I also just think it’s so cool how they tell a story with just dance. I freakin love it all.

If you live in Atlanta, PLEASE get a ticket and take in the magic. This is the last year they’re running this version of the show and starting next season, they’re rolling out new choreography, costumes, etc! (They’ve used the same costumes for the last 23+ years!!)

I’m thinking of making a festive girls night out an annual tradition. It was so much fun catching up with some of my favorite ladies and it was just so great to get out and do something Christmas-y before we got in full on holiday mode. What are your favorite traditions this time of year? Sound off below!!!

How exciting! My local hometown dance studio puts on the Nutcracker every year, and I always participate in the 1st act of the party scene! As much as I would love to do the main dancing in the 2nd act, I can definitely say being in the 1st scene is so much more fun and laid back. Practices are brutal for dancers. I still have ballet practice nightmares lol!
